Community Work

Heath Photography recently completed a charity fundraiser that we do once a year.  We shoot $10 sessions, and then donate the session fees to the Backpack Club at Alexandria Central School in Alexandria Bay, NY.  The Backpack Club sends food for the weekend home to needy households, in student backpacks.  In this photo: Penny Heath presents the Heath fundraiser proceeds to Patty Durand, who is one of the directors of the club along with Terry Satterley.

Heath Photography Partners with the North Country Arts Council and Thompson Park Zoo

What do animals, gardens, and cameras have in common?

In Watertown on July 24, the answer was the North Country Arts Council’s first annual Enchanted Gardens Family Picnic, at Thompson Park.  Heath Photography was on hand, along with April McClintock Photography of Watertown, to take photos of family and friend groups in the park’s eight new formal gardens.  Half the proceeds from the photography went to Arts in the North Country.

The picnic day began with a New York State Zoo visit at Thompson Park, followed by a shuttle to the gardens for the rendezvous with the photographers.  The picnic also included live entertainment from the River Rat Rhythm Project and the a capella group Pitch Slapped.

According to Heath Photography owner Penny Heath, the zoo and the arts council wanted to call attention to recent changes.  “The Arts Council has a new location,” she explained, “and the park put in the new gardens.  They’re really trying to step up to the plate and get known, and it’s really important to support them.  We were glad to do what we could to help.”

Noah’s Ark Preschool Benefit

L-R Connor Felder, Zachary McMahon, Gavin Fuller, Drake Phalen, Madyson Booth, Grace Richardson, Shannon Fitzgerals, Willow Arquitt, and Jenna Thomas.
On March 12, these Noah’s Ark Preschool students benefited from a “Fairies and Knights” promotion run by Heath Photography, also of Redwood.  Heath Photography donated to the preschool a group of $10 portrait fees from its promotion.  Some “Fairies and Knights” parents went on to purchase the bigger $49 packages.  This year, Heath will also run benefit promotions for the Alexandria Central School Bookbag Club, and for the Town of Alexandria organization Hearts for Youth.

Northern NY Community Foundation

I am honored to be part of people who have a special interest in the north country. May I mention: Harry O'Connor, President of Lewis County Fair Board. He leads in the renovations of the historic fair grandstand and fairgrounds. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.

Heart Gallery

We at Heath are involved with a program called the Heart Gallery. This organization is in contact with the social-service agencies that help children who are up for adoption. The photographers involved will photograph a child who is looking for a home. The images are then put on exhibit, and the community is invited to attend. The open reception for the Heart Gallery will be Thursday, June 5, from 6-9 p.m. at the Noreen Reale Falcone Library of Le Moyne College, 1419 Salt Springs Rd., Syracuse, N.Y. The exhibit will be displayed at Le Moyne throughout June. After June, the portraits will be “on the road” for the remainder of the year:

July: Utica Public Library--Utica
August: Flower Memorial Library--Watertown
September: SUNY Cortland Main St. Campus, Beard Bldg.--Cortland
October: Broome Co. Public Library-- Binghamton
November: Onondaga Co. Family Courthouse-- Syracuse
December: Thompson Home Public Library – Ithaca

Spread the word.
