Last week Heath Photography had the pleasure of photographing
the Thomson Family from AlexandriaBay. Taylor Thomson, Rick and Melissa's daughter,
is a senior at Alexandria Central this year and she had her senior photos taken
at our studio last summer.
This session was no less than a black tie affair. Alexandria Central was holding their Senior
Ball so Melissa took the opportunity to get what will probably be Taylor's
last professional photographs before she heads off to St. Lawrence University
in the fall. The prom party, which also
included Taylor's younger brother
Tristan, came by the studio dressed to the nines on their way to dinner at the
Tin Pan Galley in Sackett's Harbor.
Melissa thought this would also be the perfect occasion for
some family photos, and we agreed. We
took some indoor portraiture and the rain held off so we could get some
beautiful outdoor shots as well.
Taylor
Thomson is a lifeguard and an honor student.
She will be majoring in pre-med next year. Pictured to her right is Francesca Pirovano,
an exchange student from Italy, who has been living with the Girard
family in Alexandria Bay over the past year. When we asked
her what she thought of the area, she said, "It is really beautiful, I
love the River. Living here is very different, but I'm having fun and I don't
want to go home yet!"

Heath Photography is fortunate to be located minutes from
one of the most scenic and historically rich areas in New
York- the Thousand Islands.The Thousand Islands area consists of almost
2,000 islands that dot the St. Lawrence River between the United States and Canada, and
make a stunning natural backdrop for wedding, senior, or family photos.We recently went on location with the Shultz
family who were vacationing in a 19th centuryRiver cottage on CherryIsland near AlexandriaBay.‘Casablanca,’
as the home is named was built by a Cuban sugar and tobacco baron.It can comfortably house 35 guests, and is
filled with period furniture.
The Shultz’s plan an exciting get-away for their family
every five years, and they always hire a local photographer to shoot their
family portrait and preserve memories of their time spent together.Christi, seen with her children and grandchildren
in the photo below, said that when she saw Heath Photography’s website, she
knew she wanted the overall experience that our studio has to offer.After the shoot, Christi thought that Heath
Photography lived up to its reputation.She was especially impressed with the light-heartedness and candidness
of the photos, and the way they allowed each member of her family’s personality
to shine through.Below are a few of

finds special meaning in sharing his love of the River with his children and
grandchildren, because his mother shared it with him years ago at her cottage
near French Creek in Clayton.
One of their favorite memories of their ThousandIsland’s trip, captured by Heath
Photography, was their Crazy Hat Dinner.This is a fun tradition at Casablanca
where everyone is expected to dress up in a hat for the evening meal.As you can see from Penny Heath’s photo, the
hats range from classic and graceful floppy brimmed hats to outlandish and
eccentric hats-- like Logan’s
hamburger hat.
The Shultz’s vacation planning for their next adventure has
already begun.They will likely be
renting houseboats to cruise on the Erie Canal.We wish them luck, wherever their path leads
them!

“Soldiers are dreamers; when the guns begin they think of fire lit homes, clean beds and wives,” Siegfried Sasson.
A soldier’s life is filled with self sacrifice, and with every soldier’s sacrifices are his or her families. Every family faces ups and downs along the way, but our hearts go out to those military families who certainly have it more difficult. Soldiers are often required to move from base to base, uprooting their families, leaving behind homes and friendships they have built. During war soldiers are required to be away from their home and country for long periods of time. This sometimes means missing the birth of a child, a first soccer game, graduations, anniversaries and even the death of a loved one. But it is these families that give our soldiers strength and hope in moments of despair.
Here at Heath Photography we have the pleasure of capturing these families together. While soldiers are away it is images of their loved ones that they cherish most of all.
In every family there is a unique dynamic, and it is this dynamic that will help define the people we will grow into. Having children brings a sense of fullness to a family. It is the children we are blessed with that will fill our lives with joy and happiness. Most families have more than one child and if we are lucky enough to have a sibling in life, we may count ourselves fortunate. Although we may not always see it that way having a brother or sister in life is truly wonderful. The relationships that develop between us as siblings will be filled with change throughout our lives. As children the bond between brothers and sisters is one of strength and promise. Although there may be battles the idea of a loyal friend and consistent playmate, helps us remain close comrades.
Welcoming a new baby is an exciting time and being able to capture that is timeless. New parents Karisa and Adam Serella of Watertown, NY knew what a magnificientoccasion it was and for them, they had only a short time to capture it. Adam was deployed to Afghanistan in March and had only been there a short time when he took "rest and relaxation" from his tour to hopefully witness the birth of his son Mason. Dear Heath Family, I recieved the Family postcard/promotional and was thrilled to see our family on it. I smiled and felt so overwhelmed with joy and honor that you selected our photo to represent your studio. Also to put it on your site as well is a priviledge. Dad had a pacemaker put in in December and he is doing well, slowing down somewhat but still his same ole self. I am thankful God lead us to you. These pictures have brought us numerous hours of joy and smiles and thankfulness to be done in such a timely manor by your skilled hand. This family contacted us for a family shoot. "This would be the first time in about 20 years that we would all be together at one place at one time." Mrs. Lovelace said. This family's story is truly filled with an amazing depth of history going all they way back to WWII. It was an honor to capture the essense of this family who worked so hard to make this day happen. We have been very blessed to be part of it and we say thank you to all of you.
Albert and Pearl first had eyes for each other in junior high school. They started going steady in 1938. Later, as a young farm couple, they raised five children together, and helped each other survive family tragedies like the burning of their barn in 1946. They say they met on a blind date, and "kind-of grew on each other." They are a good example of how marriages don't always start as love at first sight--how it's a good idea for people to get to know each other before they jump into a relationship. Albert and Pearl were never apart --never--except for one week a year, when Albert went into the woods to hunt with his son. The last time he went, the telephone died, and they couldn't talk every day anymore. When someone consoled Pearl about how great it would be to talk to each other at the end of the week, she quipped, "Yeah-- I'll probably get pregnant." At 87, she is able to joke like that because of thier commitment to each other. The longevity of their love is miraculour, and inspirational.
Joe Cullen Sr. was a state trooper; he is now a firefighter, and so are his sons, Joe Jr. and Zachary. This picture says a lot to me about pride in community service, and how Joe was able to pass it down to his sons. People don't understand how important it is to spend quality time with your children. The good morals and ethics don't just come without doing so. It is about building bonds with your children-- bonds that last through their lifetimes.
